Indeed, in a study of 160 women, published in the reproductive journal Fertility and Sterility, a group of German researchers found that adding acupuncture to the traditional In vitro fertilization treatment protocols substantially increased pregnancy success. Clomiphene

Clomid (clomiphene citrate) is a nonsteroidal,ovulatory stimulant used to treat ovulatory dysfunction and polycystic ovary syndrome in women who, after other reasons for pregnancy failure have been ruled out, desire pregnancy and follow additional instructions that make pregnancy more likely to occur with this drug use. There are many side effects to Clomiphene. The addition of acupuncture to Clomiphene therapy increased pregnancy rates, lowered the resistance and pulsatility indices of the uterine arteries and reduced the adverse effects caused by clomiphene. The increase in positive patient outcomes combined with reduction of adverse effects supports the research team’s conclusion. TMC (Traditional Chinese Medicine – Acupuncture) can either be applied alone or combined with Clomiphene therapy to up pregnancy rates and treat infertility.

Research Conclusion: Clomid and Acupuncture

Taian Maternal and Child Health Care Hospitaldid a clinical study on 43 patients. The patients were randomly distributed into three groups. Group 1 received only clomiphene. Group 2 received clomiphene plus estradiaol cycionate (steroidal estrogen) and dydrogesterone (progestational hormone) Group 3 received clomiphene plus acupuncture and moxibustion ( a type of acupuncture that uses heat).The study concluded that acupuncture combined with moxibustion increased ovulation rates. Additional research confirms that acupuncture combined with moxibusiton is effective for the treatment of infertility.

Research Conclusion: In Vitro Fertilization and Acupuncture

In another study, acupuncture has been found effective for increasing infertility rates for women receiving IVF (in vitro fertilization) treatment. This highlights the role of acupuncture in an integrative medicine environment.. University of Maryland School of Medicine researchers conclude that acupuncture increases pregnancy rates for women receiving IVF.
